سرية عبد الله بن جحش إلى وادي نخلة (The expedition of Abduallah Ibn Jahsh to the valley of Nakhlah)
The prophet (PBUH) sent Abduallah Ibn Jahsh along with 8 Muslims. He was the leader and that was at the end of Rajab. The prophet (PBUH) sent them to the valley of Nakhlah, south Mecca just to get the information and the news about the Quraish’s movements, but did more than getting the information only. Because they faced a caravan for Quraish and a fight happened.
The Muslims killed the leader of the caravan Amr Ibn Al Hadramy and also seized two men of the caravan, Al Hakam Ibn Kaysan and Othman Ibn AbdAllah.
Muslims didn’t realize that it was still the last day of the sacred month during which fight is prohibited. So, Muslims were so sad, because the hypocrites and the disbelievers made a big issue about this matter. When they came to the prophet ﷺ, the Muslim group with the two prisoners and with the spoils of this war, the prophet ﷺ didn’t accept them.
He waited till Allah (SWT) sent to him these verses:
“يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الشَّهْرِ الْحَرَامِ قِتَالٍ فِيهِ ۖ قُلْ قِتَالٌ فِيهِ كَبِيرٌ ۖ وَصَدٌّ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَكُفْرٌ بِهِ وَالْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَإِخْرَاجُ أَهْلِهِ مِنْهُ أَكْبَرُ عِندَ اللَّهِ ۚ وَالْفِتْنَةُ أَكْبَرُ مِنَ الْقَتْلِ”
“They ask you concerning fighting in the sacred month, say, fighting therein is a great sin but greater than this with Allah is to prevent mankind from following the way of Allah, to disbelieve in him, to prevent access to Al Masjed Al Haram and to drive out its inhabitants and al fetnah is worse than killing”
When this Ayah was revealed, the prophet ﷺ accepted the spoils.#learn_Quran_and_Islamics
